Weekly Photo Challenge: Sea

Looking out to the beauty of the sea from a beach, a rocky outcrop or seat is a fantastic experience. But that sea can inflict devastation and horror.

Suruga Bay, like many parts of Japan’s coasts, are protected from tsunamis by sea walls and gates. This gate at Numazu Port offers protection to low lying port and residential areas behind. The gate is so bit it boasts its own observation tower!

      Unfortunately there was low cloud all day so no Mt Fuji. I will have to go back there again.

      That shot is from a boat I took from Heda to Numazu. Spectacular trip. I don’t know how the operators stay in business – just me and one other passenger.
